My name is Victoria but my friends call me Vicky! I love all things beautiful, fashionable and whatever else adds to purity of mind and body. Besides fashion – health and well-being are very important to me. The lotus flower, which derives from Buddhist philosophy, is a beautiful delicate flower that is born into muddy waters. It rises above the murk to achieve full bloom, which I interpret (loosely) as inner strength and self-awareness. I’m not Buddhist, but do have a fondness for this ancient symbolism as a guiding principle. Which means do more of everything you love – more wine, more travel and more sex! :P One of my favourite quotes that is engraved on the back of my iPad goes something like this:
“To the mind that is still, the whole universe surrenders.”
– Lao Tzu
Do what makes your soul happy, but do it with a still mind and a level head. Soon you will ignite your passion and find yourself doing everything you’ve always dreamed about! Now some of you will be wondering where “BlasianGurl” came from. First off, it’s pronounced BLAY-ZHUN-GIRL. This name arose from the most frequently asked question of me: “What are you?” Aside from being a 5-foot 9 lanky girl with athletic legs, I typically answer Black and Chinese. Which is the short way of saying my mother is Black, Scottish, Arawak Indian and my father is Chinese with a touch of Portugal (or so I hear lol). So…Black-Asian. Blasian. :)
I was born in Toronto, Canada but lived in Kingston, Jamaica until the age of 12. Are you confused yet? My family and I moved back to Toronto and today I am proud to hail from TheSix, coined so and also home to none other than Drizzy Drake. While I’m on the topic of celebs, here is a quick list of some that you may not know are from around here: Jim Carey, Rachel McAdams, Ryan Reynolds, Ryan Gosling, William Shatner, Mike Meyers, Seth Rogen, Avril Lavigne and Michael Buble, to name a few. This place is also home to the Toronto Raptors (had to shout out my team) and the increasingly popular Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Its an amazing awesome city – Hollywood North as it’s become known – and is as much a part of me as Jamaica. If you guys have never experienced it, I recommend adding Toronto to your bucket list. I’m super excited to show you some of the great spots in the city during my shoots!! I know what you’re thinking…the winters are too harsh. But really, I wouldn’t say any worse than a winter in New York – and who doesn’t love New York, right? One of the world’s great fashion capitals! I’ve embraced the seasonal variation because it allows me to change up my look. From thigh highs and cute sweaters in the fall to playful rompers and strappy heels in the summer!
I was very fortunate to spend a few short years doing some runway for a couple of up and coming designers out of Canada, the U.S. and Jamaica. I took a break from that scene, but realized that it is still very much a part of me. My sweet boyfriend (who doubles as my amazing photographer by the way) encouraged me to get back out there; and here I am with my very first post. I am excited (and nervous) to have you on this journey with me, where I will be sharing my personal style with all of you. Drawing on my unbounded cultural background and wanderlust personality, I want to share all my looks with you from ragga-muffin curly girl street style to sleek, poised and elegant to playful-chic-on-a-budget.
Wow, I’ve written a novel. I promise to keep my posts short and sweet! If you want to know anything else about me, my outfits or the website, I would love to hear from you. Till then…
Love ya long time ♡
